Everything you need to know about Minnesota's Medical Cannabis Program
The Minnesota Medical Cannabis Program is a state-regulated program that allows patients with qualifying conditions to legally obtain and use medical cannabis products. The program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and requires patients to be certified by a licensed healthcare provider and enrolled in the Patient Registry.
Your medical cannabis certification from Assured Health is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. After this period, you'll need to schedule a recertification appointment to continue participating in the program. We recommend scheduling your recertification 30 days before expiration.
While medical records can be helpful, they are not always required. Our healthcare provider will conduct a comprehensive evaluation and may certify you based on your reported symptoms and medical history. Having documentation of your condition can help expedite the process.
If our healthcare provider determines that you do not qualify for medical cannabis certification, you will receive a full refund of your consultation fee. We want to ensure that the program is right for your specific situation.
Yes! Our HIPAA-compliant telemedicine platform allows for thorough medical evaluations. Virtual consultations offer the same quality of care as in-person visits while providing convenience, privacy, and accessibility for patients across Minnesota.
Once enrolled in the Patient Registry, you can purchase medical cannabis from any state-licensed dispensary in Minnesota. There are multiple locations throughout the state operated by licensed manufacturers. Your dispensary pharmacist can help you find the right products for your condition.
Currently, health insurance does not cover medical cannabis products or certification appointments because cannabis remains federally classified as a Schedule I substance. All costs for certification and medical cannabis products are paid out-of-pocket by patients.
